Betting at ChessFriends.com Cash Zone allows players to place bets against each other. If two players agree on a bet, they face each other in a chess game, with the winner gaining the bet of the defeated. The bets are always initiated by a challenge.
Challenges are bet offers to another player. The challenging player sets the conditions of a bet. There are two challenge options - an open challenge and a personal challenge.
All the current open challenges are displayed in the Challenges panel on the right. Open challenges are placed by clicking the Challenge Players button.
Personal challenges are visible only to the challenged player, appearing in a pop-out window. Personal challenges are placed in the left panel (Online Players), by clicking the Challenge button next to a player’s nickname.
In a regular bet, both players have equal conditions, i.e. there is no handicap. Both players have the same amount of time available and they bet the same amount of money.
In a regular bet, both players have equal conditions, i.e. there is no handicap. Both players have the same amount of time available and they bet the same amount of money.
Handicap is a disadvantage for one of the players meant to compensate for his higher rating. ChessFriends.com offers time handicaps (i.e. one player has more time) and bet handicaps (i.e. one player bets more money).
In bet handicapped games, both player pay the same fee. It is deducted from the lower bet. Fees for Exclusive members are set to 2%.
Thus, if one player bets $1 to another player’s $5, they both pay only $0,05 (5% off $1).
Player currently on the move can offer a double stake. If it is accepted by his opponent, the bets are doubled. The proposing player needs to win the game. In the event of draw, he loses the bet to the opponent.
Thus, if in a $1 regular game, player one decides to make a double stake, both bets are doubled. If he wins, he gains $2 from the opponent, paying $0,10 in fees, meaning a profit of $1,90. However, if the game ends in a draw, he loses $2,10 ($2 to his opponent and $0,10 in fees).
If one player wins, he gains the opponent’s bet along his own. This is accomplished by a checkmate, opponent running out of time, or by opponent’s resignation.
Both bets are subjects to 5% (2% for Exclusive members) transaction fee, deduced from the lower bet (in case of handicapped bets). The winnings are moved to winner’s locked funds, until confirmed.
Thus, if both players bet $1, the winner gains opponent’s bet, pays 5% transaction fee ($0.05) from his bet, in effect having a $0,95 profit. The losing player pays $1 to his opponent and a 5% fee is also induced, thus he is $1,05 in loss.
